First of all I was scared – of the unknown. I haven’t got much pubic hair left but I cut longer hairs off with scissors – I arrived – the pretty young receptionist put me at my ease. I heard laughter from the studio. A man and woman came out. Jamie told me later that she’d been for a sculpture 5 times!

Jamie showed me a paper to sign – I was intrigued by the mention of possible sexual arousal. It is a long time since I have felt that. Jamie was gentle and re-assuring. I took my knickers off and put them under the pillow. He helped me up from a rather shaky stool to lie on a table which was covered by clean sheets of brown paper. ‘Just put your feet together and open your legs’, he said. Difficult, as I have had a left hip replacement. My legs began to shake but that stopped in a minute or two. Jamie explained what he was going to do. He put on some thin rubber gloves and Nivea Cream over my vagina and vulva…I hardly felt it. Then he put on the melted latex – it felt soothing. I closed my eyes. There was a huge mirror next to the table. I looked okay. Nice in fact-beautiful legs, aha!

Jamie explained that he would now stroke on the plaster of Paris. It just felt pleasant and quiet. I was not aroused or alarmed. I drifted off. No music. After a few minutes the mold had set. Just in time as I couldn’t keep my legs in the same position any more. He took the top end of the cast and gently rolled it off. It didn’t hurt at all. I lay there for a minute. Jamie brought a small container of warm water, a cloth and tissues so I could wash off anything left. He helped me down as I was afraid of falling. It was good to feel his strong, warm arms supporting me. And after I’d dressed I went out to the waiting room.

It was a good experience. I’d like to have another one done for myself – perhaps that woman who had five done was giving them to friends. It is for an Art Project and as I am a painter/printmaker I am glad to have helped a fellow artist.
