Once again demonstrating Jamie’s felicity with catchy titles, this artwork was commissioned in 2006 by Amora, an erstwhile sex education museum in London. The penises are shown in pairs, showing the limp next to the aroused state. The vulvas are shown in pairs legs together and apart (although aroused is an option) and the breasts come in pairs (although mastectomies are an option). Buttocks are now also an optional inclusion.
It was in the process of casting the 18 men and 18 women who appear on this piece that Jamie became aware how anxious many women are about their genital appearance. Inspired by the effect seeing these casts was having on his models, Jamie conceived the idea for a larger and inspiring genital artwork to assist women in overcoming their anxieties. The resulting artwork became known as The Great Wall of Vagina.
The casts within this wall are largely unique but similar walls of mixed genitals are now offered for sale to public institutions or private collectors. Installations may be any size and shape, including any number and combination of genitals (aroused or not), breasts and also now bottoms! This price is a guide only.
